But with heavy -- max-effort -- lifts, you won&#039;t be able to keep your heart rate down anyway, so my point is probably moot.  For fitness or for getting in shape, stay in the cardio zone but bump it up into the anaerobic zone occasionally.  Interval training is a great way to accomplish this.
